very well written and very thought provoking Frank. I wish others in the field of physical and movement education could stop twittering long enough to read it.
activism has become a solid component of my own movement philosophies especially as of late as we battle the errs of our ways as humans in regards to the human form.
technology once again can be our biggest ally or greatest foe as we are blessed to be able to get a great article like this out there to the masses with the click of the "enter" button yet battle to educate and inform those stuck deep in the throes of technology addiction and dependence to "take a break" and get OUTSIDE!
sorry to derail..but your article is thought provoking and get my fires burning.
don't stop writing..EVER!
peace

Beautifully written. I enjoyed the gradual build up.
Upon reading this article there were a few ideas that came to me.
(a) This is "obviously" a pro-health care article.
(b) This is "obviously" an article that supports climate change legislation.
(c) This is "obviously" an article that is promoting socialism.

However, being that those are the obvious conclusions, I thought about the implications a bit more deeply. I am of the belief that we can manufacture euphoria (and health) inside our own bodies irrespective of the outside stimuli. We have to simple chose that response. (Full Disclosure: this was developed over many hours of Tony Robbins audio tapes).

I am still of that belief, but now, there is something more to consider in that frame work.

Thanks.

Great post Frank.......
Its interesting to me that the science is here to explain the 'folk' based theories of integration . I thought that the Sandra Blakeslee book was brilliant and I wish I could get more 'physical' therapy colleagues (whatever brand or practice) to think along these lines.
On UK radio yesterday there was a programme about inequality leading to unhealthy socities . The research is challenged by many --usually those who are most comfortable in life and see the only way forward of more of the same. I work in pain management where the overwhelming population group served are those who are at the bottom of the pile. It often seems fairly pointless to offer biomedicial intervention to many of these stress and integrated societal problems (see the genetic evidence here for example)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2375027/?tool=pubmed

Nevertheless, islands of knowledge and behaviour may spread a little and your essay is a good start!
